Historical evolution

The region has been inhabited since the Paleolithic. It was the site of the Iberian people of the Bastetanos, it received visits from the Phoenicians and Carthaginians, with Rome it became important as a place for agricultural production and possibly for the location of urban centers. The Germanic peoples used it for their raids through North Africa. The Arabs and Berbers left a remarkable mark. The Christians who came from the north and from previously conquered territories took advantage of part of the existing infrastructure and adapted it to their needs to create a new society. This immigration lasted for centuries after the repopulation, as Italian merchants and other parts of Spain settled in the territory.

Nowadays, some parts of the region register the arrival of Europeans from the north who seek accommodation in these lands, as well as North Africans who come to work temporarily in the fields.
